Costs range from $300–$1,000 for minor repairs (a few shingles, a small flashing patch) to $1,000–$3,000 for moderate work (larger sections, valley repairs, or underlayment issues). The roofer's domain is everything above the eave line — the surface that sheds water. Gutter installation, on the other hand, manages what happens to water after it leaves the roof surface. Gutters collect runoff, channel it through downspouts, and direct it away from your foundation. New gutter installation runs $4–$15 per linear foot for aluminum ($800–$3,000 for a typical home) and up to $25–$40 per foot for copper or seamless steel. Gutter work includes hanging new gutters, replacing rusted or sagging sections, adding downspout extensions, and installing gutter guards. The decision depends on where water is getting in or causing problems.
