Cost is usually the deciding factor when you hire a tradesperson — but the headline rate on a contractor's flyer rarely matches what you'll actually pay. Hourly labor is only one piece of the bill: parts, permits, hauling, after-hours premiums, and access surcharges all stack on top. Our cost guides break down each trade so you can see what a job typically costs, what swings the price, and where you can reasonably negotiate.

Every guide is built from three sources: real provider quotes collected through HireLocal, public industry data (BLS, HomeAdvisor, Angi), and direct input from licensed pros in our network. Prices are broken out by country — the United States, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, and Cyprus — because labor markets and licensing rules swing the bill more than most homeowners realize. A panel upgrade that runs $1,500 in the US can land closer to €800 in Spain; an emergency plumber in Poland will not bill the same as one in the Netherlands.

This hub covers 50+ cost guides across 15+ trades, from common repairs (clogged drain, leaky faucet) to multi-day projects (roof replacement, kitchen remodel). Each guide includes an itemized table of job-by-job prices, factors that affect the cost, and country-specific ranges. When you're ready to act, every guide links straight to local pros — so you can go from research to a free quote in two clicks.

FAQ

Pricing questions

  • How accurate are these price ranges?
Each range is built from real provider quotes, public BLS / industry pricing data, and updates from licensed pros on our network. Expect the low end for simple jobs in low-cost regions and the high end for complex work, emergency calls, or premium materials.
  • Why do prices differ so much between countries?
Labor markets, licensing rules, permit costs, and material availability all swing the bill. Every guide breaks out the price range by country and explains the local factors driving it.
  • How much extra is an emergency call?
Expect 1.5×–2× the standard rate for nights, weekends, and holidays — sometimes a flat after-hours fee on top of labor. Each guide flags the typical premium for that specific trade.
  • What's not included in a quote?
Permits, disposal, hauling, parts mark-ups, and access surcharges (e.g. multi-story walk-ups) are often line items rather than part of the headline rate. Ask for an itemized quote when in doubt.
  • Is requesting a quote free?
Yes. Browsing cost guides and asking local pros for quotes is free. You only pay for work you actually agree to.
