Smart Doorbell Not Connecting to WiFi — Madrid, Madrid

A smart video doorbell that repeatedly fails to connect to WiFi — dropping offline within minutes of setup, showing a spinning status light, or appearing as 'offline' in the companion app — is one of the most common smart-home frustrations. The root cause is almost always a weak WiFi signal at the front door, which is typically the farthest point from the router and separated by exterior walls, brick, stucco, or metal door frames that attenuate the 2.4 GHz signal. Most doorbells require a sustained signal strength of at least -65 dBm (3+ bars) to maintain a stable video stream; anything weaker causes intermittent disconnects, failed motion alerts, and long live-view load times. A second common cause is the doorbell being assigned to a 5 GHz network band — many dual-band routers present a single SSID that auto-steers devices to 5 GHz, which has much shorter range and cannot penetrate walls as well. A third issue is insufficient transformer power: older homes often have a 10 VA or 16 VA doorbell transformer, but modern video doorbells require 16–24 VA at 16–24 VAC to power the camera, WiFi radio, and IR LEDs simultaneously. An underpowered doorbell will boot-loop, repeatedly connect and disconnect, or fail to ring. A smart-home installer can survey the WiFi signal at the mounting location, add a dedicated access point or mesh node near the door, verify or upgrade the transformer, and ensure the doorbell is on a dedicated 2.4 GHz SSID for a reliable connection.
