When the water dispenser on a refrigerator stops working — producing no water, a weak trickle, or only warm water — the problem usually traces back to one of a few components in the water supply chain. A frozen water supply tube inside the door is the single most common cause: the small-diameter line running through the freezer-to-door hinge freezes solid when the freezer temperature is set too low or a door seal leak lets cold air concentrate around the tube. A clogged or expired inline water filter restricts flow and can reduce output to a drip. A failed water inlet valve (the solenoid-operated valve at the back of the fridge where the household water line connects) no longer opens on demand. Less commonly, a faulty dispenser switch or control board prevents the signal from reaching the valve.
