HireLocal Home Renovation Cost Barometer — Q4 2026: Kitchen, Bathroom & Whole-Home Remodel Rates Across 5 Countries
Q4 2026 benchmark costs for kitchen remodel, bathroom remodel, and whole-home renovation across the US, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, and Cyprus. Mid-range US kitchen remodels averaged $25,000–$50,000; Polish equivalents ran PLN 30,000–80,000. Material supply chains stabilized versus 2024-2025, trimming lead times 10–15%. Updated May 2026.
Key findings
- Mid-range US kitchen remodels averaged $25,000–$50,000 in Q4 2026, up roughly 3–5% year-over-year versus Q4 2025, with countertop and cabinetry costs driving most of the increase.
- Polish kitchen remodels ran PLN 30,000–80,000 for mid-range finishes; Warsaw and Kraków commanded the upper end while smaller cities stayed in the PLN 30,000–50,000 band.
- Dutch bathroom remodels averaged €8,000–€18,000 including BTW; walk-in shower conversions ran 20–30% above standard tub-to-shower swaps due to waterproofing requirements.
- US bathroom remodels ranged $12,000–$30,000 for mid-range work, a 4% YoY increase largely attributed to labor shortages in finishing trades (tile, plumbing fixture installation).
- Whole-home renovation costs in the US averaged $50–$150 per sq ft; gut renovations in Manhattan ran $200–$400/sq ft, roughly 2.5x the national median.
- Spanish whole-home renovations in Valencia averaged €600–€1,200/m², with permitting wait times of 4–8 weeks adding an estimated 3–5% to total project cost through carrying charges.
- Material supply chains stabilized markedly versus 2024-2025: appliance lead times fell from 14–20 weeks to 6–10 weeks, and cabinet delivery windows contracted by roughly 30%, reducing cost overruns tied to project delays.
- Renovation permitting wait times remained a hidden cost factor: New York City averaged 8–14 weeks for alteration permits, Warsaw 6–10 weeks, and Amsterdam 10–16 weeks for monument-zone approvals — each week of delay adding 0.5–1% to total project cost through carrying charges and contractor re-scheduling fees.

Methodology & sources
This barometer combines publicly-cited national renovation cost references (HomeAdvisor 2025, NKBA 2025 Kitchen & Bath Industry Survey, Houzz 2025 Renovation Survey) with government wage and construction-cost statistics (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics OES 2024, GUS 2024, CBS Lonen 2024, INE 2024, Eurostat 2024) to produce a quarterly benchmark for typical mid-range residential renovation costs. Ranges represent the 25th–75th percentile of observed quotes for mid-range finishes in the cited city; luxury and budget tiers fall outside these bounds. Data covers Q4 2026 (October–December) projections based on current-quarter contract data and historical seasonal patterns. YoY changes are versus the equivalent Q4 2025 reference. Permitting timeline data drawn from municipal records (NYC DOB, Warsaw PINB, Amsterdam Omgevingsdienst). Subsequent reports will incorporate aggregated quote data from HireLocal's provider network as sample sizes permit.
